Phoenix Motored Bikes. Com sells motored bikes and do-it-yourself kits that are PERFECTLY LEGAL to ride and operate in the state of Arizona.

We here at Phoenix Motored Bikes. Com do not claim to be lawyers.  We simply know and understand the law in our home state of Arizona and we have noticed that most states seem to follow the same principal guidelines.  We have posted links to the Arizona State Legislature Web Site to give you an idea of what some of the laws might be.

We try to give you a few of the laws that seem to be a common thread among most states, but it is up to you to read, research and understand the laws of your state.

Arizona Revised Statutes  Title 28 Transportation :

ARS 28-2516   Defines motorized bicycle as:  bicycle/tricycle that is equipped with a helper motor that is 48cc or less, may also be self propelled, and is operated at speeds of less than 20MPH.
Says that you DON'T need a Drivers License, Registration, or Insurance.  You do not have to go through emissions, and you MAY use Bike Lanes.

ARS 28-812  States that a person riding a bicycle on a roadway or on a shoulder adjoining a roadway is granted all of the rights and is SUBJECT to all the DUTIES applicable to the driver of a vehicle by this chapter and chapter 4 (DUI) and Chapter 5 (vehicle violations).

ARS 28-815  Person riding bicycle should stay to the right as close to curb as possible and that person riding bicycle should not ride more than 2 side by side.

ARS 28-817   A bicycle used at nighttime shall have a white light visible 500 ft away and a red reflector on the rear that can be seen from 50 ft away in any direction and 300 feet from the rear.  A person shall not operate a bicycle that is equipped with a siren or whistle and a bicycle shall be equipped with a brake that enables rider to skid.

ARS 28-705  Stuff about headlights.  Put a headlight and a tail light on your bike.

ARS 28-944   more stuff about headlights. You should be able to see a person at 100 feet or 200 feet.

ARS 28-964   The operator of motor driven cycle under 18 shall wear a helmet, wear protective glasses at all times. (unless you have a wind shield.) and that motor driven cycle shall be equipped with a rear view mirror.  This also says that motor driven cycle shall have a seat, footrests, and handrails for any passenger and that handlebars cant be above your shoulders when sitting astride the seat.

ARS 28-811   The parent or guardian shall not permit child to break these laws/regulations and this chapter applies to bicycles operated on highway or on a path set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles.

The above laws were taken from the Arizona State Legislature web site and can be read in it's entirety at Arizona Revised Statutes  Title 28 Transportation

These are the laws of Arizona, but other states seem to have the same basic concepts.  Again, it is up to you to look into the exact nature of the laws in you state.
